How to Overcome Bad Habits By Javnyuy Joybert

With careful mental preparation, and the desire to change our tomorrow for the better we can make wise choices. The question you should ask yourself is this “Are the choices, habits am practicing today, right now changing the outcome for the better or worse. Great people don’t allow short term benefits or enjoyment to cost them a life time of achievement. Millions of young people in Africa indulge to funny bad habits because of the now enjoyment and forget the amazing destiny and life time achievement God has in store for them. This article will not be helpful to you unless you have realised that you definitely have some bad habits you want to change. The first step to change is awareness that you need change. 

Below are a few tips that will greatly aid you to break any bad habit

1. Choose a substitute for your bad habit
It is simple “what are you going to do when that bad habit is urging you”
You need to have a good habit to replace the bad habit. The best way to forever eliminate a bad habit is to slowly replace bad habits with healthier routines.

2. Willingness
 You have to want the bad the habit to go. So you need to ask yourself this serious question, “Do i really want to give this habit up”? The truth is a good number of young people want their bad habits to stay

3. Triggers
Understand what triggers your bad habits. Carefully look at your life and understand those things that trigger or urge you to do things you don’t want to do and start cutting those things off little by little. It may be friends, your phones, stress and boredome and others. You need to fully understand when and why these “triggers” occur.

4. People
It is difficult to make lasting change on your own especially with habits. It is very important to build a close knite of people who will help you follow through with this goal of changing your bad habits. You can always get encouragement from them when you are feeling tempted to give up or weak. Make a pubic declaration to your close friends and family and let them you know you want to break that bad habit in that way you will be accountable to them ( Find accountability partner)

5. Reminding future self
Reminding your future self about the importance of avoiding bad habits now such a great tool. Coach yourself to break the bad habit. Visualise yourself succeeding and building a new identity

Bad habits have drastic effects on our lives, they interrupt our lives and prevent us from accomplishing our goals/dreams as young Africans.
